The Mississippi legislature is working through a large education bill that will give the state much more power to take over failing schools. Their approach is to declare a state of emergency at those schools, then let the state step in and restructure them. It seems a bit extreme, but they can't seem to find another way to get around the local control of the school systems. I hope the state is ready to deal with these schools once they have control over them...
